2024 MINI Cooper SE
2025 Polestar 4

Safety

The Cooper SE has standard Assist eCall, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Cooper SE and the Polestar 4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available front parking sensors.

Warranty

There are over 3 times as many MINI dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Cooper SE’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI above average in initial quality. With 134 more problems per 100 vehicles, Polestar is rated below average.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Cooper SE gets better mileage than the Polestar 4 (119 city/100 hwy vs. 85 city/75 hwy MPGe).

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Cooper SE’s turning circle is 3.1 feet tighter than the Polestar 4’s (35.1 feet vs. 38.2 feet).

Chassis

The MINI Cooper SE may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 2150 pounds less than the Polestar 4.

The Cooper SE is 3 feet, 2.9 inches shorter than the Polestar 4, making the Cooper SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Cooper SE is 11.1 inches narrower than the Polestar 4, making the Cooper SE easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Ergonomics

To better shield the driver’s vision, the Cooper SE has a standard dual-element sun visor that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer a secondary sun visor.

The Cooper SE’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Polestar 4’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Cooper SE has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Polestar 4.
