The Countryman SE has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Countryman SE. But it costs extra on the Blazer EV.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Countryman SE’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Countryman SE and the Blazer EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Countryman SE comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Blazer EV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Countryman SE’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Blazer EV’s (12/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the Countryman SE for 3 years and 36,000 miles. MINI will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Blazer EV.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Countryman SE’s reliability 28 points higher than the Blazer EV.

Engine

The Countryman SE’s electric motors produces 88 more horsepower (308 vs. 220) and 121 lbs.-ft. more torque (364 vs. 243) than the Blazer EV’s standard electric motor. The Countryman SE’s electric motors produces 8 more horsepower (308 vs. 300) and 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (364 vs. 355) than the Blazer EV’s optional electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the MINI Countryman SE is faster than the Chevrolet Blazer EV electric motors:

The Countryman SE has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Blazer EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Transmission

The Countryman SE’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer launch control.

The Countryman SE stops much shorter than the Blazer EV:

Tires and Wheels

The Countryman SE’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Blazer EV LT’s standard 60 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Countryman SE has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Countryman SE’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Blazer EV’s (55% to 45%). This gives the Countryman SE more stable handling and braking.

The Countryman SE handles at .85 G’s, while the Blazer EV RS eAWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Countryman SE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the Blazer EV RS eAWD (25.7 seconds @ .73 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Countryman SE’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Blazer EV’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The MINI Countryman SE may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 1150 pounds less than the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The Countryman SE is 1 foot, 5.2 inches shorter than the Blazer EV, making the Countryman SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Countryman SE is 5.4 inches narrower than the Blazer EV, making the Countryman SE easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Countryman SE’s rear seats recline. The Blazer EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Countryman SE. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Countryman SE’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Blazer EV’s (2645 vs. 1500 pounds).

While the Blazer EV RS eAWD SS is not recommended to tow, any Countryman SE can tow a minimum of 2645 pounds.

Servicing Ease

A Condition Based Service is standard on the Countryman SE to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for brake fluid replacement and vehicle inspections based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Chevrolet doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Blazer EV.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that MINI service is better than Chevrolet. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in service department satisfaction. With a 13% lower rating, Chevrolet is ranked 13th.

Ergonomics

The Countryman SE’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Blazer EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Countryman SE the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Blazer EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Countryman SE’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Blazer EV’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Countryman SE to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Countryman SE has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Countryman SE’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Blazer EV.

The MINI Countryman SE has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Blazer EV.

The Countryman SE has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Blazer EV.

The Countryman SE offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Blazer EV.

The Countryman SE has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Blazer EV RS/SS.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the MINI Countryman SE has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Blazer EV.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Countryman SE first among small suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Blazer EV isn’t in the top three.
