2026 Porsche Macan Electric

Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Countryman SE are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Countryman SE has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Countryman SE has standard Rear Collision Prevention that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Countryman SE. But it costs extra on the Macan Electric.

Both the Countryman SE and the Macan Electric have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the Countryman SE for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Macan Electric (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

Engine

As tested in Car and Driver the MINI Countryman SE is faster than the Porsche Macan Electric electric motor:

Suspension and Handling

The Countryman SE’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Macan Electric’s (48% to 52%). This gives the Countryman SE more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Countryman SE’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Macan Electric’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The MINI Countryman SE may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 800 pounds less than the Porsche Macan Electric.

The Countryman SE is 1 foot, 1.3 inches shorter than the Macan Electric, making the Countryman SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Countryman SE’s rear seats recline. The Macan Electric’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Countryman SE has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Macan Electric with its rear seat up (24.8 vs. 22.1 cubic feet). The Countryman SE has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Macan Electric with its rear seat folded (56.2 vs. 50.6 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Countryman SE’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by waving your foot, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Countryman SE has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Countryman SE’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Macan Electric’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Countryman SE has a standard rear wiper. A rear wiper costs extra on the Macan Electric.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Countryman SE first among small suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Macan Electric isn’t in the top three.
